In December, Wheatsville is supporting the Wheatsville Co-op Community Fund. Customers may donate at the register. It’s easy to contribute by rounding up your total! All funds collected go into the Twin Pines Cooperative Fund, and the interest collected from those donations will be used towards local non-profits in Austin. Celebrate 174 Years of Cooperation with Oatmeal Cookies & Music
Join us at both stores for oatmeal cookies and music as we celebrate the birth of the modern cooperative movement. One hundred and seventy-four years ago, on December 21, the lights were lit at 31 Toad Lane in Rochdale, England. With just 28 members and open only 2 nights per week, the Rochdale Pioneers sold four key items; butter, sugar, flour and oatmeal. Driven by idealism and vision of a better social order, the Pioneers became champions of pure food, honest weight, fair dealings, education, community and cooperation. Their founding principles became the framework for co-ops today.
